About KMuddy
KMuddy is a MUD client powered by KDE. It is a very powerful, fast, feature-rich and easy to use MUD client.
It offers many features such as powerful external scripting (which supports very many languages such as Python, Perl, Lua, C/C++, Ruby), and it's own internal scripting. KMuddy has split-screen scrolling, command history, buttons, gauges, logging (both in plain text and colorful HTML), multiple connections, regex support (on both aliases and triggers), output windows and much more.
You can download it now to get started.
What is a MUD?
A MUD (Multi User Dungeon) is an online text-based game. Think MMORPG, but without the graphics (MMORPGs actually evolved from MUDs). MUDs allow you to interact with other players, complete quests, fight each other, and other fun things - the complete definition can be found on Wikipedia. There are tons of MUDs about, so to get started, it's useful to get a listing of them. Two popular listing sites are The Mud Connector and Top Mud Sites. A list of MUDs is also available directly from within KMuddy.
So how can I play a MUD?
First off, you'll need to get the address of one. It's usually in the form of a host name and a port number, and you can get those off the two previously mentioned sites. For example, the host name might be mymud.example.org, and port 23. Then, you need to connect to the given address with a MUD client.
If your MUD is known by KMuddy, it can automatically fill in this information for you.
And what's a MUD client?
A MUD client to a MUD is like a web browser to the Internet - it allows you to connect to any MUD you choose. And KMuddy is one of them! But besides just connecting you to a MUD, KMuddy also offers very helpful features such as aliases (pre-made definitions of words you can make, so that you'll save yourself on typing), triggers (have KMuddy do automated responses for you, such as standing up whenever you fall down), and many other things.
