First KDE4-based testing pre-release
After more than a year of development, a new pre-release of KMuddy is finally available for download. This is not a final version, but rather a testing one. This version requires KDE4.
Significant new features of this pre-release include:
Based on KDE4.
Greatly improved support for aliases, triggers and other objects. KMuddy now features a hierarchical group system, allowing for improved organisation of profile data. The new system overcomes the limitations of the previous versions, and creates the basis for further enhancements, such as scriptable alias/trigger manipulation, dynamic priorities and more.
MUD listings. KMuddy now includes a big list of available MUDs, kindly provided by the MUD connector. Future versions will also include support for downloading updates to the list.
Rewritten profile support. The profile code has been rewritten, in order to provide better stability and scalability.
XML storage. KMuddy now uses XML as its storage back-end for profile-related data. This leads to better data structure, faster profile loading and in the future will also allow better plug-in capabilities. A profile converted is available (in the Tools menu) which lets you convert your existing profiles to the new format for usage with KMuddy 1.0pre2 and newer versions.
On the other hand, some features of the KDE3-based version were not ported yet. These include:
- the scripting module
- the mapper
- the action buttons
- output windows
These will all become available before the stable 1.0 release.
